One weekend, many years ago, as a single-divorced Dad, I found myself arriving home with my kids for the weekend, exhausted, with no food in the house. I searched the refrigerator, the cabinet for canned goods, and finally the freezer. The only thing I could find was ice cream in the freezer. I turned to the kids, and jokingly, I said, would you like ice cream for dinner? They let out a resounding, "YEAH!". I was so tired and didn't feel like packing them back up and heading out (not to mention having let the Genie out of the bottle, and hearing "PLEASE DADDY! PLEASE DADDY!" every 5 seconds), so I said, "OK, but don't tell your mother". Of course upon dropping them off at the end of the weekend, the first words out of their mouth to my ex-wife was, "DAD LET US HAVE ICE CREAM FOR DINNER!". While this is not one of my proudest fathering moments (I'm sure I'm not the only one out there), it was a day that went down in infamy for several years as my kids grew up...as they would always remind me...."Remember that time you gave us ice cream for dinner"!
Likewise, I'd like to feed you some ice cream as today's main course (if you have not read Greg's opening article, this will make more sense if you do so first). While it has taken a bit longer than promised, I have finally completed a couple of "How to" instructional videos that I believe you will find helpful. These videos are targeted towards quality assurance engineers wishing to learn more about integrating Eclipse, Cucumber, Maven, and Selenium. These videos are the first of many that will guide us on our journey referenced in Greg's accompanying article today.
The goal of the first video is to get everything set up properly, and to introduce you to each of the components (Eclipse, Maven, Cucumber), their purpose, and perhaps a little advise or tips here and there on their proper use. This first video is about 40 minutes long. The second video is about 50-minutes long, and adds Selenium to the mix (both Webdriver Java code and using Selenium IDE as a short-cut for now). I continue to elaborate on the various components and offer more tips and observations on successful use. You will need to install both the latest version of Firefox (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/) and the Selenium IDE (http://www.seleniumhq.org/download/) for the second video (NOTE: At the time of this writing, everything worked fine with the now currently available versions of all the tools utilized. Over time, this may not be the case as new versions are released. Please keep this in mind if you do not get to these tutorials right away). In addition, in the first video, we do install Eclipse, Maven, Cucumber, and Selenium support, but I walk you through all of this.
Well, that is about it...I'll let you get to it. If you are unfamiliar with some of these tools, you may need to watch more than once, or rewind here and there, but that's OK....remember, its "All-You-Can-Eat". Enjoy your ice cream for NOW, before we start tightening our belts!
