Consumer sentiment expressed online about Apple has grown more negative as result of the leak of stolen nude celebrity photos from an Apple online service, according to data from Networked Insights, a social media analytics firm.
Early reports this weekend suggested hackers accessed the photos through Apple’s iCloud system but Apple has denied that its online system had been breached.
The negative online chatter is unfamiliar territory for Apple, which typically has legions of Apple fanboys gushing over the company’s moves across social media sites. Indeed, Networked Insights said that positive online comments about Apple typically outweighed any negative comments. On Tuesday, however, it was the reverse.
Networked Insights said that while negative online comments about Apple have begun to shrink, the scandal is still getting more online chatter than the much-anticipated new iPhone launch, which is expected to be announced on Sept. 9.
